Chris Kostopoulos returns to the Highland Park Hockey Association as the Head Coach of the Varsity team. Chris has been instrumental in the formation and success of the hockey program at Highland Park High School. Chris was the first head coach for the varsity team having coached eight seasons from 1999-2007. Chris led Highland Park to the AT&T Metroplex High School hockey league playoffs each year from 2002-2007, including the State tournament in 2004-05 (State Finalist) and 2005-06 (State Semi-finalist). Chris has a passion for developing hockey players to achieve their best, both on and off ice. He brings leadership, character, knowledge, skill and superb coaching abilities, attributes that will further develop the HP hockey players and program.
For the past 2 seasons, Chris has coached at the Division I College Hockey level as an assistant coach on the staff of the Robert Morris University Men’s Division I Hockey Program. During his time in Pittsburgh, Chris helped lead the Colonials to their program's best ever winning percentage in the 07-08 season and to a spot in the College Hockey America Championship Final game in 08-09, with a team of 21 freshmen & sophomores.
Chris will also be Director of Coaching and Player Development for the Alliance Bulldog Youth Hockey Association and coach the Tier I Elite U18 Midget Major AAA team this season. He has also been on the coaching staff of USA Hockey’s Rocky Mountain District Select Festival for the past 5 years, where he develops & evaluates players from the Region and selects those who move on to the National Festival.
A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Chris played Minor Pro in the Central Hockey League, and College Hockey at the University of Toronto. Chris brings over 14 years of coaching and 20 years of playing experience at all levels of hockey, including Junior A, Division I College and Professional. He also holds a Masters Level coaching certificate.
Chris is married, has three children and currently resides in Fort Worth, Texas. Chris’s brother, Tom Kostopoulos, currently plays in the NHL for the Montreal Canadiens.
