Highland Park Hockey Association

Ryan McLean begins his third year as the Head Coach of the Highland Park Junior Varsity team. 

A native of Brandon, Manitoba (Wheat City), Ryan played for five years in the Central Hockey League for the Wichita Thunder, for one season in the CIS for the University of Regina Cougars, and for four years in the SJHL (Canada) with the Estevan Bruins and the Weybun Red Wings.  Before that Ryan played for ten years for the Brandon Wheatkings AAA minor youth hockey program. 

Ryan has been the Head Coach for the Dallas Scots Midget Minor A and Squirt AA teams.  This season Ryan will be the Head Coach for the Dallas Scots Pee Wee 98 AA and Squirt AA teams. 

Ryan is a dedicated and passionate coach who has a lot invested in his players.  He knows how to get the most out of each player while teaching the essentials and fine points of the game and making it fun along the way.  Ryan has the unique combination of hockey knowledge, teaching ability, interpersonal skills and passion for the game that make him an ideal hockey coach.

Ryan and his wife have a daughter and are expecting their second child this fall.  He and his family live in McKinney.

The Highland Park Hockey Association is fortunate to have Coach McLean working with the young men on its Junior Varsity team, preparing them to be strong contributors to the Varsity program in the future.

Michael Beck returns for his second year as the Assistant Coach of the Highland Park Junior Varsity team. 

Michael grew up in the Metroplex, playing with DJHA, Storm, Ice Hawks and Lone Star Wolves.  He graduated from Plano Senior High in 2003, where he was a two-year Captain of their Varsity hockey team. Coach Beck attended Colorado College where he majored in mathematical economics and played D1 and club hockey.  Michael has coached the Dallas Scots Pee Wee team the past two seasons.  In May 2009 he coached at the USAH Rocky Mountain District Player Development Camp in Salt Lake City with HP Varsity Head Coach Chris Kostopoulos.  This year Michael will also coach the Alliance Mite Select team.

Coach Beck has a great perspective on the game and a strong relationship with the Highland Park players in addition to an unwavering commitment to the success of the Highland Park hockey program.
